The development and production of PHA derived from marine bacteria in partnership with many Breton businesses should result in the production of a material destined for packaging manufacturing.
The first pellets derived from different fermentation processes were conducted and transformed in our laboratory. Prototypes of injected parts are currently being evaluated according to biodegradability tests, with the objective of meeting the NF T51-800 (household composting) standard. Supplemental biodegradability tests are also being conducted in marine environments and the preliminary results are promising.
The objective for 2020 was to optimise the manufacturing procedure and improve the properties of this new material. PHA is a biomaterial of the future in line with the environment.
